Position Overview

The University of Georgia Golf Course is seeking a motivated Assistant Equipment Mechanic to join our Agronomy team. Working alongside the Equipment Manager, this position plays an important role in maintaining and repairing the golf course's fleet of turf maintenance equipment. The successful candidate will help ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and at peak performance to support championship-level playing conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preventative maintenance program for the golf course equipment fleet.
  • Service and maintain reel mowers, rotary mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and other turf maintenance equipment.
  • Sharpen and adjust mower reels, bedknives, and rotary blades to maintain exceptional cutting performance.
  • Assist with diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related issues.
  • Recommend replacement parts and communicate equipment needs to the Turf Equipment Manager.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and assist with scheduled service intervals.
  • Keep the equipment maintenance facility clean, organized, and operating safely.
  • Safely operate shop equipment, including grinders, lifts, air tools, and other specialty maintenance equipment.
  • Perform additional duties that support the daily operation of the golf course maintenance department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work in a shop and outdoor environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining golf course or commercial turf equipment.
  • Knowledge of reel mower setup, grinding, and adjustment.
  • Mechanical experience with gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

This position involves working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Daily responsibilities include standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, lifting equipment and parts, and operating shop tools and machinery.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. Work schedules may include occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime as operational needs require.
