Golf Course Superintendent

Oak Ridge Country Club is a historic, private club in Oak Ridge, TN that recently celebrated its 75th
Anniversary in 2022. It is a picturesque property with an 18-hole championship layout designed by Bob
Cupp. We have and continue to host a qualifier for the Knoxville Open on the Korn Ferry Tour, and this
year we are hosting the Tennessee Senior and Super Senior Match Play Championship. We are a privately
owned golf club with 300+ members that take pride in quality playing conditions for members and their
guests.

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, operations, and management of the
golf course and clubhouse/parking grounds. The golf course has zoysiagrass tees and fairways, warm
season roughs, and creeping bentgrass putting surfaces. Prior experience managing creeping bentgrass
putting surfaces is desired. The Golf Course Superintendent directly influences the playing areas and
landscape with which golfers interact.

Experience Requirements:
6-8+ years of turfgrass management experience required.
Supervisory experience required.
GCSAA member or willingness to join association required.
Valid TN pesticide application license or willingness to attain (if out of state).
Experience of working on equipment to maintain and/or repair

Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
A strong business aptitude and a passion for the golf business.
Highly organized and able to maintain a clean maintenance facility for both employees and equipment.
Able to communicate with the General Manager / Membership and work closely with the Golf Professional/Pro Shop.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Working knowledge of golf course maintenance operations, to include daily work
scheduling, strong people skills, growth, development, and maintenance of turf grass, pesticides and
fertilizers.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, able to work safely around
pesticides and fertilizers, heavy equipment, and must be able to professionally communicate with
employees, members and their guests.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
• Attend all required departmental meetings with the club.
• Develop and maintain a personable relationship with members.
• Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a
safe work environment.
• Prioritize and set all work assignments for the following day.
• Work closely with crews to insure knowledge of personalities and skill levels.
• Able to perform hiring, training, development, and termination of staff.
• Working and communicating with golf course professional, GM and Pro Shop, monitor activity
on course, dispersing work force relative to that activity.
• Maintain high safety standards, by training and working daily with staff.
