REPORTS TO:

Assistant Superintendents and Golf Course Superintendent

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Spray Technician – Assistant in Training is responsible for applying chemical and fertilizer treatments to the golf course to ensure the health and vitality of turfgrass, plants and trees. This role involves operating spraying and application equipment safely and effectively, adhering to environmental and safety regulations and maintain accurate records.

Agronomy - Golf Course Maintenance

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain a variety of specialized and advanced golf course equipment, including fairway mowers, greens mowers, aerators, top-dressers, and other turf maintenance equipment.
  • Operate utility cart in a safe manner keeping feet inside the cart at all times.
  • Applies and stores pesticides in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of pesticides in regards to mode of action and safety precautions
  • Maintains neat and accurate records of all pesticide applications
  • Maintains all spraying equipment and ensures that the mixing areas are clean and neat
  • Participates in morning set-up of the golf course, monitor irrigation system and pump station
  • Maintenance and repair of irrigation system
  • Scouts the golf course on a regular basis for insect, weed, and disease problems. Diagnose any observations and take corrective action after discussion with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent’s.
  • May assist with wilt watch for bentgrass greens.
  • Assist with mowing and maintenance of all turf grass areas on the golf course.
  • Train and mentor less experienced equipment operators on proper machine use and care.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to entry-level team members.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Operates construction equipment when needed.
  • All other duties as required by supervisor.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Performs job responsibilities and operates equipment according to the company safety and training programs.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as trained and required. Wear safety glasses, ear plugs, steel toe boots when required, sunscreen, gloves, and seatbelts when required.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Reports safety or hazard concerns to management.
  • Reports any on the job injury to management immediately.
  • Takes personal responsibility for safety every day.
  • Report equipment issues to Equipment Manager immediately.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience operating golf course or heavy landscaping equipment.
  • Must have strong background in golf course maintenance, construction or agricultural industry.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Turf or related field is preferred.
  • Certifications in turf management, pesticide application or related fields are required.
  • Knowledge of turfgrass management and golf course agronomy.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel and work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Open to receiving feedback regarding performance
  • Punctuality is a must.
  • Knowledge of golf rules and etiquette is a plus.

SCHEDULE:

  • Golf Course Maintenance operates 7 days per week. Employees must be available to work weekends and overtime hours as required.
