Beaver Dam Farms is a 1,400 acre privately owned property that includes equestrians, organic farming and an eighteen-hole golf course. Beaver Dam Farms is located just outside of Athens, GA in the small town of Colbert. Although the original design and layout of this property was developed by music legend Kenny Rogers, a master plan is being prepared to transform this into a private member destination resort. Future plans include tee and green renovations, new irrigation system, and construction of new driving range, including a short game practice area. The green will be converted to Tif 3D and the green complexes will be reshaped and grassed with Tahoma bermudagrass. The tees will be converted from zoysia to Tahoma bermudagrass.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent (AGCS) is primarily responsible for implementing daily departmental work schedule and coordinating the related activities with the staff as outlined by the Director of Agronomy. The AGCS will be a “hands-on” management position working closely with the staff of 12-20 full-time employees. The AGCS will oversee all aspects of fertilizer & pesticide management, irrigation repair and management, equipment maintenance and operation, and much more. He/she will work closely with employee training to ensure all are following the departments job descriptions and performing the duties in a safe and effective manner.
Attention to detail is a must, and implementing practices that include staff will be critical to the future plans of this world class facility. The AGCS must have the ability to perform any task needed to meet course standards. Knowledge of landscape designs and proper uses of ornamentals (including annuals and perennials) is desired. The AGCS must be able to work in the climate and conditions that weather produces in the north Georgia region. The AGCS shall possess a current Commercial Georgia Pesticide License (Cat 24). The AGCS will be responsible for accurate records of daily job tasks, fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as any pertinent jobs where future references may be possible.
Job qualifications are: A 2 or 4 year degree in a turf, agronomy or horticulture related field; Prior work experience in golf course management is highly recommended.
