Job Description

SUMMARY

Nestled on the shores of Lake Lanier lies Lanier Island Resort – an island destination spread out across 1200 acres unlike any resort in Georgia. Our property features 282 guest rooms, indoor/outdoor meeting spaces, golf course, multiple dining options, nature trails, and other points of interest.

Display at all times consistent positive mannerisms, which showcase that you remain calm at all times.

Communicate in a positive manner when interacting with guests, ownership, management or staff - whether face-to-face, over the phone, via email, or written letter/memo form.

Safety, emergency response, emergency communication, accidents/injury reporting process, member of the safety committee, member of the training committee. In times of crisis management, display a calm and authoritative presence.

Ability to be fair, firm and consistent and always lead by example. Ability to listen to staff and guests with a level of attention that they “feel” you are present and listening to them. Ability to follow up with a sense of urgency and time management always at the front of your thought process. Create an environment that is rewarding and enriching for your team.

Display a high level of ethical standards and practices

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for assisting and assessing golf course maintenance needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervising the work of the golf course maintenance crew
  • Maintaining and improving course playability
  • Repair and service RainBird irrigation system as needed
  • Pesticide application
  • Calibrating and operating all equipment
  • Record Keeping on all spray applications in code with all regulations
  • Report directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Assist in assigning and planning daily work of maintenance crew
  • Assigning each team member working responsibilities
  • Assist in supervising of mowing roughs, fairways, and greens
  • Course Set up
  • Maintain maintenance of all bunkers
  • Assist in supervising and performing all fertility and chemical applications on course
  • Apply preventive and curative pesticides to the course.
  • Training of new golf course personnel to include all safety procedures
  • Irrigation inspection and repairs.
  • Communication with Superintendent and Mechanic daily on equipment needs

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of basic course maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic golf course irrigation
  • Ability to train and operate various pieces of equipment used in maintaining the golf course; including greens mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers, walk mowers, aerator, skid steer, bunker rakes, tractor, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
  • Georgia Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within the first 6 months.
  • Preferred 2–4-year turfgrass management degree

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of US currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory MVR for 3 years.
